United Plugins have announced the release of the latest addition to SounDevice Digital’s range of plug-ins. Randomachine has been designed to quickly add variation to repetitive samples, with its six built-in effects and probability controls making it possible to introduce subtle changes or completely transform the incoming signal. And for the first week of its release, the companies are offering it as a free download for all users.
There are six effects included: Distort, Pan, Ambience, Time, Pitch and Formant, which are each represented by a circle in the GUI and can be randomised independently. A value of 0 – 100 % can be assigned to each effect, determining the amount of random processing that will be applied; a value of 0% will leave the section bypassed entirely. The effects parameters will be set differently each time the plug-in is triggered, ensuring that each sample repeat will be different to the last.
As for the triggering itself, the plug-in offers three possible modes of operation. A Transient mode, as you might expect, engages the effects based on transients in the incoming signal, with a sensitivity control allowing users to fine-tune the threshold at which processing is applied. Sync then applies each change a set musical interval, and provides a menu occupied by a range of straight, triplet, dotted and tuplet options. Finally, MIDI then makes it possible for the effect to respond to incoming notes from a controller or DAW track.
SounDevice Digital have implemented a few handy features including a system that ensures that bypass automation doesn’t cause any clicks and noises, and a sleep mode that allows the plug-in to consume almost no CPU resources when no audio is present at its input.
Compatibility
Randomachine is supported on PCs running Windows 8 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.10 or higher. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

Randomachine is available now, and is being offered as a free download until 21 April 2024. It will then be priced at €9 until 21 May 2024, when it will increase to its final price of €49.
