Harmonics DNA: Understanding the Magic of an Instrument in Hiding is a new book written by Ashkan Mashhour that provides “a daring statement on harmonics at the junction of music, physics and cognition”.
Ashkan says that the book is aimed primarily at guitarists devoted to their craft, but can also serve as a useful tool to other instrumentalists including bass or ukulele players. Although focused on instruments, it also covers many concepts relating more generally to signal and sound processing, and so will be an interesting read to many with an interest in audio. The title promises to provide readers with a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles of harmonics, offering explanations that help players to visualise what they are hearing from their instrument and providing an “unparalleled insight into note making on a guitar”.
