Play Series vocal processor revisited

Native Instruments Glaze 2 vocal production harmony stacks layers instrument

Native Instruments’ latest Play Series instrument updates and enhances an old user favourite, and packs in a powerful selection of vocal-production tools aimed at hip hop and pop producers. Glaze 2 offers an intuitive way to create harmonies and stacked-up vocal sounds, and comes loaded with over 30 chord sets pre-mapped to keys, as well as 150 presets that offer a huge variety of inspiring sounds right out of the box.

The instrument’s main page has been designed to provide minimal distractions, providing access to the two samples that occupy its dual-layer playback engine and housing a set of assignable macro controls. Once an idea is in place, more in-depth tweaking can be carried out using the Sound Editor page, where it’s possible to alter the tuning, levels and panning of each layer, as well as taking advantage of the instruments two LFOs, mod and amp envelopes.

A collection of onboard effects processors are present, and can be arranged in any order using simple drag-and-drop interface, and you also get a 16-step sequencer that can be used to generate musical ideas or apply rhythmic modulation to Glaze 2’s parameters or macro controls. Finally, some adjustment over the instrument’s response is provided by a Settings page, which allows users to adjust the likes of velocity curves, ket ranges and more.

Compatibility

Glaze 2 runs in Native Instruments’ Kontakt and free Kontakt Player samplers (versions 7.6 and above), which are supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 12 or higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with standalone applications.
