CLOCKstep: MULTI from JMK Music Pedals

Integrate MIDI Clock with Eurorack/modular rigs

MIDI Clock transport control metronome source +5V modular Eurorack

JMK Music Pedals’ original CLOCKstep provided users with a single device that offered MIDI Clock, transport control and a metronome source, aiming to act as a central hub for MIDI-based live performance rigs. The CLOCKstep: MULTI offers that same functionality, but with the addition of +5V sync outputs that allow it to be integrated with Eurorack and other compatible modular synth systems.

Functionality

In addition to the MIDI I/O included on the CLOCKstep, this latest offering also comes equipped with an Audio In connection which allows the unit to generate a sample-accurate clock signal based on a ‘striped’ audio track sent via a DAW, providing a more stable and accurate signal than standard MIDI Clock. Whilst the unit is designed to function as a MIDI Clock generator itself, it can also be configured to follow an external clock source if necessary.

An audio output is also present, and carries a signal from the device’s built-in metronome, with users able to configure a click track using 16 different onboard sounds. Independent volume levels are provided for quarter, eighth and 16th notes, and the unit supports a range of different time signatures.

A grid of 16 backlit buttons provide quick and easy access to all of the device’s key parameters, offering functions such as tap tempo, volume and mute controls, preset selection, transport control and more. In addition to the onboard control, all of the CLOCKstep: MULTI’s functions can be controlled via an external MIDI device, allowing the use of third-party controllers or applications.

Connectivity

JMK Music Pedals CLOCKstep MULTI audio MIDI power connections CLOCKstep MULTI's rear-panel MIDI and audio I/O.In terms of connectivity, MIDI I/O is provided on standard five-pin DIN connectors and via USB, whilst the line-level audio I/O utilises a pair of quarter-inch TRS sockets.

A patchbay on the front panel populated with 3.5mm mini-jack sockets provides a range of connections for modular synths, with a pair of sync outputs joined by a range of transport commands and an additional MIDI output. Power is accepted from an external PSU via a 2.1mm DC connector.
