Upgrade enhances synth operation and adds Mac compatibility

Clavia have released v3 software for their Nord Modular and Nord Micro Modular synths. The great news for Mac users is that the software, and thus the synths, are now compatible with Apple computers.

The new software upgrade totally revises the Nord Modular system, though it's 100 percent patch-compatible with previous versions. Here's a run-down of what's new in v3:

Mac version of the software: the Nord editor has been completely rewritten to run smoothly on both Mac (MacOS 8.5 or higher) and PC (Windows 95/98 and NT4 v3) platforms.

Two patch sections, one for selecting voice-specific modules (typically synth modules) and one for choosing modules that are global for all voices (ideal for chorus, vocoder, compression and other effect modules).

Many more modules in a patch: the module limit per patch is increased from 44 to 127 for the Voice section, with another 127 modules for the Global section -- a total of 254 modules per patch, if you don't run out of processing power first!

Dynamic patch storage: the number of patches that can be stored in the synth depends on their size, and a new patch compression technique means that more patches can be stored than previously.

Multi-step undo/redo.

Editable 'Knob Floater' window, providing onscreen equivalents of the synth's front-panel controls.

One editor supports up to four Modular/Micro Modular synths.

New graphical interface -- including more cable colours and a toolbarwith new functions.

Integrated patch browser, making it easier to browse and select patches.

The v3.0 software upgrade can be found on Clavia's web site.
