Universal Audio unveil OX Stomp pedal

Latest UAFX pedal models cabinets, mics & room

Universal Audio UAFX OX Stomp speaker cabinet microphone room modelling guitar effects pedal

Designed to act at the perfect companion for amp modelling systems in the studio or on stage, Universal Audio’s new OX Stomp Dynamic Speaker Emulator comes packed with authentic-sounding cabinet, microphone and room models, as well as offering a selection of built-in studio-quality effects.

The company say that their Dynamic Speaker Modeling process exceeds the capabilities of traditional impulse responses, and is capable of convincingly emulating characteristics such as speaker breakup, drive and cone cry, delivering results that are indistinguishable from a perfectly-miked speaker cabinet. Condenser, dynamic and ribbon mic models are on offer, too, and OX Stomp is said to be the only pedal that offers modelled room mics alongside the cabinet mic options.

The pedal comes loaded with 22 cabinet models and six microphone choices, with over 100 curated RIG presets provided. Onboard effects include the likes of an 1176 compressor, plate reverb, chorus and flanger, as well as three types of delay and a four-band EQ equipped with high- and low-pass filters. It is possible to connect the OX Stomp to the company’s UAFX Control mobile (Android/iOS) app, where it is possible to configure cabinet and mic setups, fine-tune effects parameters, assign presets to the hardware controls and customise the behaviour of the footswitches.

"When we released the original OX Amp Top Box, we were thrilled to see the demand from guitarists who appreciated the sonic authenticity of our modelling. At the same time, some guitarists didn't need the reactive load box feature of OX — they just wanted the cabinet, mic and room emulations. OX Stomp hits that nail on the head and lets them take their tone to the next level." - Tore Mogensen, Senior Product Manager, Universal Audio

The OX Stomp offers silent switching, is equipped with a buffered bypass, and features an analogue dry-through signal path. Stereo I/O is provided by four quarter-inch TS connectors, and 9V DC power is accepted via a standard 2.1mm centre-negative connector.

OX Review

As its name suggests, the technology in the new pedal has been derived from the company’s OX Amp Top Box, which we reviewed in the September 2018 issue of SOS.
