Reason Studios have today released the latest update to Reason, bringing two major new features to both the standalone DAW and plug-in versions of their popular software package. Both versions now boast native compatibility with Apple Silicon processors, and a new offline mode means that users are now able to run the software without the need for an internet connection.
M1/M2 Compatibility
Said to be a must-have update for users of machines equipped with Apple’s M1 and M2 processors, Reason 12.6 is said to offer a 50% improvement in performance compared to previous versions. An update to the software’s Rack Extension technology also means that all of its 750+ Rack Extensions are able to run natively on Apple Silicon systems, even those that are no longer updated or maintained by their original developers.
Offline Mode
The second major change delivered by the update is the inclusion of a new offline mode, allowing users to continue working when they lose access to the internet, or are working somewhere with no internet connection available. Logging into Reason once whilst online will authenticate the computer being used, after which it will be able to work offline. The ability is built into the software itself, so no third party applications are required, and the feature extends to users of Reason+, the company’s subscription service.
Compatibility
Reason 12.6 is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or 11, and Macs running macOS 10.13 or higher. The plug-in version (Reason Rack) is available in VST3, AU and AAX formats.

The Reason 12.6 update is available now, and is a free download to all current Reason 12 owners and Reason+ subscribers. Reason Studios are also offering a 40% discount on all upgrades from older versions until 8 May 2023.
