Korg have announced the launch of the Modwave mkII, an updated version of their compact wavetable synthesizer that boasts almost double the voice count along with a range of new modulation options.
The mkII comes loaded with over 200 factory wavetables that each contain up to 64 waveforms, all of which can be processed in real time using the instrument’s 30 Modifiers and 13 Morph Types. A unique real-time A/B Blend feature makes it possible to create new hybrid sounds from any two wavetables, and the synthesizer now offers 60 voices of polyphony. For those who want even more, Korg’s free Editor/Librarian software makes it possible to import new wavetables, and as well as supporting a huge range of free and commercial offerings in the standard Serum format, it is possible for users to create their own using the free, cross-platform WaveEdit software.
Each Program has two wavetable oscillators along with a sub-oscillator/noise generator, and offers a choice of 12 stereo filter types — which include the company’s MS-20, Polysix and newly enhanced Multi Filter designs. A flexible modulation system makes it possible to animate almost any of the instrument’s parameters using four triggerable envelopes, five LFOs, dual mod processors and two key-track generators, as well as Korg’s Motion Sequencing and Kaoss Physics systems.
With the release of the mkII, all of the Modwave’s LFOs have been updated with options for free-running, delayed start and retriggering, and effects routing has also been improved, with reverb sends now benefitting from a pre/post configuration option.
