GForce unleash VSM IV

String machine virtual instrument upgraded

GForce Software VSM IV Virtual String Machine software instrument

GForce Software’s Virtual String Machine combines a huge collection of classic string synthesizer samples with a dual-layer architecture and a range of built-in effects and modulation options, allowing users to create their own custom string machine-inspired sounds. The latest version, VSM IV, extends the instrument’s functionality even further with a range of improvements and enhancements to both the user interface and the underlying processing.

The core sounds used in VSM IV have been sourced from 46 classic and rare instruments, with the instrument’s library occupying 11.6GB of space and offering in excess of 1900 presets, over 200 of which have been added with the release of the latest version.

New adjustable Wow and Flutter parameters are joined by an Instability control, allowing users to introduce the sonic imperfections that occur in ageing instruments, while the software’s processing capabilities have been extended with a new state-variable filter and three-band EQ section. A new analogue-style chorus and additional reverb have joined the collection of onboard effects, and the existing ensemble effect has gained a second mode, while the modulation capabilities have been updated with new LFO shaping possibilities. The company have also expanded the instrument’s polyphonic aftertouch and velocity controls to provide yet more expressive playing potential for those with compatible controllers.

Along with the additional sound design capabilities, VSM IV now boasts a fully scalable GUI, and comes equipped with powerful new Patch and Instrument Browser systems that help users navigate the vast collection of presets. Editing patches has been made simpler too, thanks to new undo, redo, copy and paste functions.

VSM IV is supported on PCs running Windows 7 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.13 and higher. VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application.
